Why is Nutrition for Your Teeth Vital
While planning a fitness regime for your body, most of us often tend to exclude the necessary care to keep your healthy tooth-set intact. Dental care, when neglected may lead to severe problems sometimes involving the necessity to even undergo a surgery. As mentioned by a famous poet Ogden Nash, “Some tortures are physical, and some mental. The one that is both is Dental”.
Causes:
The possible and commonest of causes leading to dental issues are a diet rich in starch and sugars that accelerate the growth of bacteria and viruses (normal flora) resulting in plaque formation.
Prevention:
Causes are beneficially accompanied with preventive measures. There are a number of ways where you could not only prevent the occurrence of dental problems but also keep your teeth healthy forever. Here are the Do’s and Don’ts to healthy teeth:
Do’s:
• A balanced diet comprising protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals especially Calcium, Phosphorus and Magnesium.
• Consumption of plenty of water a day helps retain your dental health.
• Herbal tea containing a higher percentage of catechins, an antioxidant, helps kill the germs infesting your teeth.
• Including other powerful antioxidants like Vitamin C and Flavonoids helps.
• Fresh fruits like apple, berries, oranges, bananas, melons, celery and vegetables like cucumber with high water content do well to teeth.
• Brushing twice daily with dental floss at least once a day keeps your dentist miles away.
Don’ts:
• If smoking and chewing tobacco has become a part of your routine, giving them a break is the best way to keep your teeth healthy.
• Avoid sweetened, sticky foods like candies, carbonated drinks, etc.
• Snacking often worsens teeth health to a great extent and needs enough time intervals between two meals to let saliva wash out the germs.
• Avoid toothpaste possessing high percentage of sugar.
